12:07 pm - Too much fun at the library
I just got back from the Library. I checked out 2 book each for 4 different authors. That's 8 books total. The second and third book of the Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud, both books of the Trickster's Duologoy by Tamora Pierce, Sense and Sensibility and Emma by Jane Austen, and Dune Messiah and Children of Dune by Frank Herbert.

I think I'm going to start with the Bartimaeus books. But I'm not sure what the order of the rest of the books is going to be.

What order should I read the books in? 1 for read first, 4 for read last.

10:36 am - Kiddie Theater and Dinner
Yesterday after work I helped MDB with the final part of her capstone by playing theatre techie. She did this two week workshops with some kids that included them making short movies. Yesterday was the screening of the movies for their families. I'm really glad that I came with her because I was able to speak Tech to the tech director of the theatre where the stuff was being shown. We ended up setting up a projector and screen attached to an independent sound system. After MDB left to go get the kids, [info]lordaerith showed up to help also (actually, he was the one that originally was supposed to be helping). He talked to the tech director guy a bit, and fiddled with the lights so that there could be a spotlight on the stage.

The whole thing went pretty well. I worked sound and computer from the middle of the audience and Aerith worked lights from the booth. The movies were actually pretty well done for middle-school age productions.

After it was over, Aerith and I headed out to Central Market for Poly dinner. Yay for seeing people that we haven't seen in ages and ages. Had some good food and good conversations. Found out that [info]juliarandolph got me a present. Also started talks for a showing of Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter because more people need to see that movie. The Alamo Drafthouse's Rolling Roadshow was showing Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory at Central Market that evening also, but Aerith was getting really tired, so we left just as the movie was starting.

Currently I am avoiding doing work at work. It's cold in here.

09:23 am - Back in the swing of things
Yesterday was the first day where things really felt normal again.

I got up and went to work. At work I played on the internet, did a bit of work, and helped a person. yay. Also got to see people that I haven't seen in a month and feed some of them homemade chocolate-raspberry chip cookies :)

After work I did 30 min on an elliptical at the gym. Yay for me with the working out and stuff.

Then I ran a few errands both on campus and on the way home. Stopping by B&N to pick up the new book by [info]otterdance that came out yesterday and then reading it while walking home totally counts as an errand.

I made dinner last night. I totally under estimated how long the chicken was going to take to cook, but it turned out okay anyway. One of these days I'll figure out this timing thing.

To end the night I went to karaoke with FireCat and [info]zyrain. We were almost the whole rotation so we got to sing a lot. Various and sundry silliness was had. My favorite moment was when FireCat was singing "Stand By Me" and Zyrain and I ran up to either side of her and started swaying with her. It was sweet. :)

Ok, back to alternating between reading and watching lion cubs. At some point I'll get more work done.

02:47 pm - Download Day
It's Download Day.

That's right, kiddies, today is the day that we can help Mozilla break a world record by downloading Firefox 3: http://tinyurl.com/5vcx53

Edit:Things I like so far - ability to add tags to bookmarks (not sure what I'm going to do with it but I like tags), site info by clicking on favicon, when copying and pasting into word the formatting isn't carried over.

Things I don't like - most of my plug-ins don't work. I'm seriously missing Tabs Mix Plus! Ha, found a Tabs Mix Plus beta from their website. it works and saved all of my settings. yay!

Things I'm undecided about - the autofill for the location bar. It pulls in sites I've visited in a different way. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get used to it or if it will seriously annoy me.

12:47 pm - Linky post
Apparently it's "Blog Like It's the End of the World" day. I participated last year, but this year I'm just not up to it. Could be all the traveling I've been doing lately. Yup, I'm back in Austin until Monday, then I'm at a conference. I come back on Friday. I don't think I like the jet setting lifestyle that much actually. Especially when it takes me away from husband and kittens.

Instead of blogging about zombies, I will give you links/quiz results.

1. A live web stream of Lioness and her cubs from a zoo in Norway (I think). Probably the cutest thing evar.

2. The IQ Adventure Test. A really fun and fascinating series of tests. Takes a little while to complete, but totally worth it. My results.

3. My personality type: the social realist. Take the free iPersonic personality test! My personality type: the Social Realist.

4. I am a bad housewife:

Very Poor (Failure)

11:56 pm - Umm...ouch!
Here is an abbreviated version of what's happened this week: I'm having a good time in New Orleans. My capstone is going really well. I've been scanning like crazy. The scanner is not the best and casts a slight red/magenta tint onto most things, but that's okay because i've gotten good at color correcting it. My mom's been making home made ice cream sandwiches, the most recent batch had coffee ice cream in it. I had crawfish and a poboy last night. I got to play Rock Band with my sister. I helped my mom sort her baking pans (yes this is a big deal cause she has a lot of them).

This morning I wrenched something in the area of my right shoulder. My should was already hurting a little bit from the workout DVD i'd been doing and I'm sure that sitting at a desk where I couldn't get my legs under the table and constantly leaning down next to it to put things on/take things off/adjust things on the scanner wasn't helping. So when I reached for my cell phone to turn off my alarm on it (yay for cell phone alarm clocks) I pulled something. All of a sudden there was a ton of pain from just under my skull to my shoulder blade. It hurts. When I lie on my back, I can't raise my head up. To help it I took a hot bath and a warm shower. I got pack of Icy-Hot patches to wear while at work and have been popping the aleeve. Yup. I went to work today. I had to. I only have a few more days in New Orleans and there's a lot left to do. But I left early and tomorrow is the day off. But the thing that helped the most was that [info]aenelein came over and gave me a really amazing massage. He gives good massages and it was just what i needed. Okay, time to go to sleep and hope that I feel somewhat better in the morning cause I have to go shopping with my sister for professional clothing for the conference next week.

oh, and to top it all off I got my period today...

04:33 pm - Road trip
Cimmy and I are on our way back to New Orleans. I drove the first leg from Austin almost all the way to the Louisiana line. That's about 4 hours and around 275 miles.

I took this picture somewhere along 290 while Cimmy was asleep in the passenger seat. Taking a picture on you iPhone while driving is tricky and I only recommend doing it when the road is straight and there is no one around you.

01:48 pm - Sister's visit
My sister, [info]queencimmy, and I drove back to Austin from New Orleans on Wed. The radio in her car isn't working, but we got a car to plug & usb adaptor and hooked up her computer speakers and iPod so we had music. We started off listening to The Last Five Years, which is a really touching and amazingly crafted musical. I think a lot of my friends would probably cry their eyes out right now if they listened to it. We only stopped once (which was amazing), with Cimmy doing a huge stretch of the driving. At one point she had to drive through a patch of rain that was coming down so hard that it was almost impossible to see. I was so proud of her. We ended up getting suck in really really bad traffic just before the 610 exit due to 2 separate accidents. We made it into Austin just fine, if pretty late.

On Thurs I got to play the digitization game (yay!) and then picked up Cimmy for some errand running around town. Took her to Central Market for fruit and veggies. Had salad that night and watched Lost, which hurt lots and lots.

On Friday we met up with [info]lordaerith, [info]syhira, and some of the people Aerith works with for lunch at the Crown and Anchor. Then Cimmy and I went walking around/shopping in South Austin, cause I'd never been shopping there before. It was fun. Friday night was another low-key night with Battlestar Galactica.

Yesterday Cimmy and I went to see the Sex and the City movie at the Alamo Drafthouse, which I thought was very well done. If you liked the show, I recommend seeing the movie. I think Cimmy fell in love with the Drafthouse.

After the movie we went window shopping at the Domain, cause really after seeing all those fashions and shoes what's better than actually being in the presence of a real pair of Manolo Blahniks.

After staring at all the clothing/bags/shoes that we couldn't afford, we headed downtown to catch Ka-Baam, a superhero improv show at the Hideout Theatre. Our friend [info]raven_lenore joined us, which was awesome. The show was pretty funny. I'd probably go again. After the show we went out to the Magnolia Cafe for food.

Today we're having a lazy day during the day and going to see the Dresden Dolls tonight.

07:01 pm - Jorge and cat vomit
Just finished reading all of Jorge Garcia's (aka Hurley from Lost) blog (which also has an LJ feed). It's really funny and amusing. No Lost spoilers, but that's okay.

As I was adding the feed to my LJ I heard the sounds of a cat about to throw up (which I know so well from the hair balls that Boris occasionally gets). This time it was not Boris but a very perturbed and somewhat frightened Natasha. I acted on instinct and grabbed her to get her onto the tile (so much easier to clean than the carpet). However, unlike Boris who calmly lets me move him, Natasha was not so happy. She flailed. A lot. I got her in the kitchen, but ended up with some nice gashes across my knuckles (we can't cut her nails...neither can the vet. the last time a vet tried she ripped the clipper out of the vet's hand even though she was being held down by the vet's assistant). Then after she threw up, she threw up just a little bit more on the couch arm. Thanks a lot kitty! Cleaned that up too and then cleaned out my scratches.

I'm actually a little worried about Natasha. She didn't eat much of her lunch (and now I know why), and I've never seen her throw up before or even have a hairball. I guess we'll just have to watch her over the next few days. Maybe she's allergic to [info]queencimmy ;)
