Shit (D20)

Last night the power kept going on and off (thank goddess lordaerith has a battery operated alarm clock...). And the cats were acting really strange. Normally if Natasha is on the bed and I push her a little bit, she jumps right off, but last night she held onto the covers and refused to leave the bed no-matter how much I rolled around. While I enjoyed her company, it was definitely not normal. And this morning Boris was hiding under the bed and didn't even cry for his food when we woke up...

Then the MoPac was totally packed when I drove to work. It took me forever to get here, even though the rush hour crowed is usually gone by 9:30. The weird thing is that I didn't see any wreaks or anything. Occasionally there was someone ambling down the side of the road, which was strange...especially since they were moving slower than we were and we were stop and go.

When I got to the UT campus, however, the parking garage was eerily empty, which was odd because I thought there was orientation going on.

Everything seemed fine until my lunch break when I went to the PCL (the library) to return my book. As I put my book in the return pile, I heard a strange noise near by. I turned around and there was the reference librarian BITING someone. It was so freaky, like being in a movie. Her mouth was all bloody and the kid started screaming. I ran out of there as quickly as possible. When I got outside, there were cops and dogs and everything heading into the building. They told us not to panic. DON'T PANIC. WTF! That was a zombie. I know I don't watch horror movies that often but I know a zombie when I see one.

Edit: Just got an email from UT saying that there was (yet another) threat at the Library, but not to worry. Don't worry???? I'm one building over from zombies.

Edit 2: I checked the internet. According to moonrose, it was zombies that caused the highway traffic.

Edit 3: I don't know what I'm going to do. They turned off the escalators (hopefully zombies don't know how to use stairs), but here I am in a room with no windows, no defense, and no way of knowing what's going on out there.

(blog like it's the end of the world)
Shit (D20)

from bad to worse

My co-worker just came into the Lab to start his shift. He looked a little woozy to me so I told him to go lie down on the couch. Oh goddess, what if he's been bitten??

Okay, I feel better. I got him to move from the couch to the floor of the back room. He was somewhat unresponsive...but at least he moved mostly on his own as he's a big guy and if what I think is happening to him is happening then I have no idea what I'm going to do. At least I have the door locked and barred from the outside.

I can't get lordaerith on the phone. The lines are all jammed. But he left me a message to my last post so I know that he's okay for now. I'm not sure about the rest of my family, but I know that walkingundine and blueraccoon are safe for now.

How am I the only person in Texas without guns?

I think I'm going to close the door to the lab now. It doesn't look like there's anyone coming in today anyway.
Shit (D20)

oh god, oh god

I was right. My co-worker was definitely bitten by a zombie. A little while ago I heard rustling from the back room and then there were loud moans and pounding on the door. At about that same time I started to hear pounding on the main door of the lab too. At first I thought it was people running in here for safety (I don't have any windows in this room), but then when I got close to it, I heard the same moaning that I heard from the back room. I moved as much furniture up against the doors as I could, but most of the stuff we have in the Lab is either bolted down, too light to be affective, or too heavy for me to move.

I ran into the utility/server closet and luckily I got one of the loaner laptops to work (we've been having problems with the laptops here*). It seems as though the school's network is still up, but it's a little spotty in here. At least I have light and it's warmer in here than in the lab.

Oh god, the moaning is getting louder. I think they broke through the door. I'm not sure if I'm going to make it. lordaerith, I hope you show up soon. I love you.

* This is actually true. Four out of our six laptops are currently broken.
Shit (D20)

I can't believe what happened

We're safe. Somewhere in the middle of no where (I'm surprised there's an internet connection out here), but we're safe.

I'm really shocked that I'm here. I thought that I was done for in the closet. I could hear the zombies getting closer, making their way through the room towards where I was. I don't think I'd ever been that scared in my life. Then all of a sudden I heard gun shots and this low whirring noise. I heard the sounds of fighting and this sort of squishy sound of bodies falling to the floor. After what seems like hours, but I'm sure it was just minutes, there's a knocking on the door. It's lordaerith shouting my name. There was never a sweeter sound. I open the door of the closet and there he is, covered in gore. He hands me a shotgun and tells me we got to get moving. Apparently when he rushed to campus to save me he found other survivors killing the zombies that have taken over UT. He got them to band together and help him rescue me. He still won't tell me how he got to UT or where he got the chain-saw and I'm not sure that I want to know.

The smell of dead (again) zombies is... well... I know I won't forget it as long as I live, nor do I want to smell it again. We got out of the building, said thank you to the guys who were watching the TransAm (and the cats), jumped in, and we were off. I'd never been so thankful for the t-tops. It made shooting the zombies that tried to climb on the car so much easier.

I'm going to catch some shut-eye. lordaerith is still walking the parameter of where we are, looking an awful lot like his hero Ash. I'm a little worried about Natasha...it looks like she may have a scratch on her arm and she's starting to act strange...even for her.
