Not a straight bone in my body

Coming Out Day

Today is National Coming Out Day.

Last year I wrote a long post about everything I am. This year I have nothing to add to that post, other than just to say that I'm "queer as frak."

I'm sure you've all heard in the news about the teenagers who are committing suicide after being bullied about being queer/gay/outside of the norm. There's the It Gets Better Project as well as the The Trevor Project. There have also been many calls across the internet to remind us that these bullies are learning this behavior from somewhere, mainly intolerant parents, politicians, and other public figures.

I guess I was lucky. By the time I really figured out that I was queer I was in college (I was questioning by the end of high school) at one of the most liberal and welcoming for queer students colleges in the nation. My parents, family, and friends have been, for the most part, supportive of all of my lifestyle choices (even if they don't understand all of them). That's not to say that I wasn't teased in elementary, middle school, and early high school about other things, but I mostly learned to shrug them off and now I am surrounded by many people who love me, support me, and encourage me. Thank you all.
