I got the new Jacqueline Carey book Banewreaker (The Sundering, Book 1) from the library last week (got to love interlibrary loan) b/c it was getting mixed reviews on Amazon.
I'm about 100 of 430-odd pages into it. The writing is still amazing, but very different from the Kushiel's Legacy series. There hasn't been any sex or truly sexual overtones, which may be why some people didn't like it. But it is turning out to be a perceptions of evil discourse, something like Wicked. It's a fairly standard fantasy plot. 7 gods made the world, 1 of them was not like the others. He is now "evil" and there is a profacy to defeat him once and for all, blah blah blah. But what makes it facinating is that we are folowing those who are bound to the "evil" god. And they are full characters, with lives and passions and heartbreak. And it's riviting.
I'll give a full review when I'm done reading it.
back to work that makes my eyes hurt.
